Pupil distance, also known as PD, is the distance between your pupils in millimeters. With the correct PD, we center the lenses precisely in front of your eyes so you see sharply and comfortably.

What is the pupillary distance or PD (Pupillary Distance)?

The pupil distance is the distance between your two pupils. This measure is important to determine where the exact center of the lens should be in your new glasses. Pupil distance is measured in millimeters.

PD can be measured as one total distance (usually between 60 and 80 mm for adults and between 40 and 60 mm for children) or individually for each eye.

A measurement per eye measures the distance between the center of the bridge of the nose and the center of your pupil, for each eye separately. When added up, this in turn results in a total PD between 60 and 80 mm.

Why is it important to measure your pupil distance

Pupillary distance (PD) is essential for placing eyeglass lenses exactly where you want them in the frame. If the lenses are not properly aligned with your pupils, it can lead to:

blurred or fuzzy vision

tired or strained eyes

headaches while wearing glasses

By accurately measuring your pupil distance, we ensure that your lenses perform optimally and keep your eyes comfortable, even during prolonged use. This is especially important with prescription and progressive lenses, where precision is even more crucial.

How do I get my pupil distance?

Can’t find your pupil distance? Then we’ll send you instructions with a link to easily measure it online. Quickly, accurately and without a ruler or credit card.

Another way is to look at your glasses prescription or invoice from your previous glasses. Many opticians list the PD there.

Measuring pupil distance yourself

You can also quite easily measure your pupil distance yourself or have someone else measure it for you.
