Dimensions and frames
Sizes and frames play a big role in the fit of glasses. At Specialspex we have a wide range of sports glasses, safety glasses and motorcycle glasses. The nice thing about these curved glasses is that they generally fit a variety of faces well. Precisely because the glasses are highly curved, they fit your face well right away, so the “one size fits all” principle often applies.
To still help you select the right glasses, we have measured the exact sizes of our glasses and categorized them into different categories. Sometimes this size may differ from the supplier’s size description.
How do I know if glasses fit my face properly?
Do you have a narrow face, or do you know from yourself that regular glasses are always too tight? Then it is wise to choose the right size glasses. You can use the filters on the webshop to easily select the size you would like to order.
Below we explain how the different sizes of glasses are determined. The most important size is the frame size, which we measure exactly and place in a size category. There is an overlap in sizes, so a particular pair of glasses may fall into more than one category in some cases. The exact SMM is listed in the specifications of a pair of glasses.

Specialspex Frame Size (SMM) measure by yourself
This size is measured between the legs (springs) of the glasses. You can easily compare this with your own glasses. See also an instructional video here where we show you how to measure these sizes.
Tips for measuring:
- Use regular glasses, not sunglasses.
Regular glasses have flatter frames and therefore give a more accurate measurement. Sports or sunglasses with a lot of curvature make this more difficult. - Do you have multiple pairs of glasses?
Feel free to measure several frames that fit well and take the average. - Check that your glasses fit properly.
Glasses should be comfortable: not too wide, not too narrow. Look in the mirror to see if the glasses don’t stick out past your face or pinch. - How do you measure?
Unfold the legs and measure on the inside of the frame, from one side to the other, between the hinges. In the table you can see which size category would fit you well. - Choose the right glasses.
Then choose glasses that match one of our glasses in the same size category. This will ensure that the glasses fit your face best.
Choosing the right nose size
A good fit depends not only on the width of the frame, but also on the bridge of the nose. At Specialspex, we distinguish two types:
- Standard nose bridge: Suitable if your nose bridge is higher than your pupils or if you have narrow cheekbones. This bridge is fixed and has no adjustable nose pads.
- Adjustable nose bridge: Has flexible nose pads that you can adjust for a firm but comfortable fit. Ideal if you want custom fit.
Choosing the right curve
Glasses are made with a specific curve, or curvature of the glasses (also called wrap ).
- The higher this number, the more curvature the glasses have.
- Everyday glasses have a curvature between 0 and 4.
- A standard pair of sports glasses has a curve of 8.
- Extremely round glasses have a curve of 10.
What if glasses don’t sit or fit comfortably?
No problem! With us, you may easily return or exchange eyewear.
For prescription glasses, when in doubt we recommend ordering a pair of glasses without a prescription first, so that you can be sure that they are comfortable. Would you like to try on different models and get advice from a specialist? Then you can always make an appointment in the store to try on the glasses.
