    Frequently asked questions

In addition to impact protection, safety glasses may have extra markings:
    K scratch-resistant coating
    N anti-fog coating
These markings indicate that the glasses have been additionally tested for scratch resistance or fogging according to EN standards.
For companies, we also offer the option to fit safety glasses on-site. Request our brochure for workplace glasses with all the options.
We are a partner optician of Bollé Safety and Proteye. With a voucher from one of these providers, you can schedule an appointment to have your safety glasses fitted.
Within the EN166 standard for safety glasses, letters indicate how well the glasses can withstand impact from flying particles. The difference between EN166 S and EN166 F mainly lies in the level of protection.
    EN166 S – increased robustness
This classification indicates that the frame and lenses have basic strength and can withstand light impact. Glasses with EN166 S are suitable for low-risk situations where protection against dust, dirt, or light contact is required.
    EN166 F – low-energy impact protection
EN166 F provides a higher level of protection. The glasses are tested with a 6 mm steel ball fired at a speed of approximately 45 m/s at the lens. This makes EN166 F glasses more suitable for working environments where flying particles, splinters, or light mechanical impacts may occur.
    In short:
EN166 S → basic robustness for light conditions
EN166 F → impact protection against flying particles
For many technical and industrial applications, EN166 F is considered an important minimum standard for proper eye protection. At Specialspex, we are happy to help you choose prescription safety glasses that match your working environment and the required safety standards.
When safety glasses are certified with side shields, these are part of the safety construction of the glasses. The side shields provide additional protection against flying particles, dust, or splinters that may come from the side. Without this side protection, the glasses no longer meet the original safety standard.
For prescription safety glasses, side shields are therefore often an essential component to ensure full EN166 protection.
If the side shields are part of the certified safety glasses, they must not be removed. Removing the side shields voids the safety certification, and the glasses will no longer provide the protection they were approved for.
For safe use, safety glasses should always be worn complete and in their original configuration. This ensures your eyes remain optimally protected during work.
