Our cycling glasses offer a lightweight fit, good ventilation and optimal protection from wind, sun, dust and insects. As a result, you will always have clear and comfortable vision whether you are cycling, mountain biking, gravel riding or recreational cycling.

Many models are also available as prescription cycling glasses. With prescription sports glasses, you not only see sharply, but also enjoy all the benefits of professional cycling glasses or sports glasses. This allows you to continue to perform safely and comfortably on the bike.

What should I pay attention to when choosing the frame of cycling glasses?

    Fit

A good pair of cycling glasses stays firmly on your nose without pinching. Even when you sweat a lot, a rubber nose rest and rubber on the inside of the springs ensure that the glasses stay firmly in place. The springs of a good pair of cycling glasses run straight back so that you can easily put the glasses on and take them off, even when wearing a helmet.

    Protection

The wrap-around or curved frames of most cycling glasses ensure that your eyes are well covered. As a result, you are optimally protected from UV rays, wind, dust and insects. The lenses of cycling glasses are made of extra-strong plastic, so they won’t break if, for example, a pebble hits them.

    Weight

Today, frames for prescription cycling glasses are almost always made of plastic. This material is strong, can take a beating and at the same time is very light. An average pair of cycling glasses weighs about 30 grams. With prescription lenses, the glasses become slightly heavier, usually about 20 grams extra.

    Contrast lenses or self-tinting lenses

While cycling, the light is constantly changing. You ride from open stretches to woods, from sun to shade, and sometimes even through rain or fog. Good lenses in cycling glasses help you stay sharp in all these conditions. Especially contrast-enhancing lenses and self-tinting (photochromic) lenses make a big difference.

    Better perception with contrast lenses

Contrast lenses are designed to make details in the road surface more visible. While cycling, you want to be able to react quickly to obstacles such as cracks in the asphalt, gravel, wet spots or roots on a forest trail.

These lenses filter certain parts of the light spectrum and amplify others, making contrasts clearer. This is especially useful for cycling, gravel riding and mountain biking, where the road surface or terrain is constantly changing.

Self-tinting lenses (also called photochromic lenses) automatically adjust to the amount of light. In bright sunlight, the lenses darken, and in cloudy weather or in the forest, they lighten again.

This has great advantages for cyclists, as you often encounter different light conditions along the way.

    Benefits of self-tinting lenses:

    • one pair of glasses for different light situations
    • better visibility in sun, shade and cloudy conditions
    • less glare from bright sunlight
    • comfortable vision without constantly changing glasses

During long rides or routes with lots of shade, for example in the forest or in the mountains, self-tinting lenses ensure that your vision always remains optimal.

    Frequently asked questions

A mirror coating protects against distracting reflections. In addition, a mirror coating is extremely smooth, allowing water droplets to slide off the lens more easily.
At Specialspex, you can easily configure your glasses online. After entering your prescription, we will make the glasses for you.
Our anti-fog coatings are applied in the factory and are permanent coatings. As a result, they generally remain effective for many years, as long as the coating is not worn down or damaged by intensive use or improper cleaning.
Photochromic lenses are often recommended for cycling glasses, especially in changing light conditions. They automatically adjust their tint in sun or shade, so you don’t need to change lenses and always have clear vision.
